In the 1940s, John T. Parsons developed the control numerical control, which he implemented with the help of his aerospace engineer, Frank L. Stulen. This consisted of complex formulas used in the structural and aerodynamic design of helicopter rotor blades and other structures. Parsons' breakthroughs in computerized manufacturing led to the development of computer numerical control (CNC), which controls the automation of machine tools and tooling processes. Parsons also pioneered bonding in metal aircraft structures and subsequently built the first all-composite airplane. He produced giant fuel lines for the Saturn launch vehicle that sent American astronauts to the Moon, and also introduced computers to aircraft design, production, and real-time management reporting.
